State IT Reduces Internet Rates

The Division of State Information Technology (State IT) is pleased to announce a major rate reduction has been provided to its customers in one of the most widely used services, Internet connectivity.

Effective Sept. 1, 2012, DSIT Provided Internet service will be reduced from a monthly rate of $40 per megabyte (MB) to $14 per MB, a reduction of 65 percent.

This reduction, due in part to reduced vendor costs, will allow participating agencies to see significant monthly savings during a time in which many state and local governments are routinely asked to do more with less.

While many agencies will no doubt welcome the opportunity to lower their monthly Internet costs, others will instead choose to forego the savings and use the rate reduction as a chance to obtain much needed bandwidth without the need for additional expense.

DSIT Provided Internet delivers connectivity to users of the State Network – a network consisting of the MetroNet and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks – through a system of diverse connections to two separate Internet Service Providers (ISP). The use of multiple ISPs is designed to offer customers additional redundancy not typically provided through a single ISP.

As part of our ongoing effort to improve, we will continue to explore ways to deliver the services customers require at the lowest possible cost. On behalf of the entire Division, we would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve your information technology needs.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding DSIT Provided Internet, or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact State IT by e-mailing or by calling (803) 896-0001.
