The Right Time For Fuel Additives?

Last month, we asked the question "When do you use Diesel Fuel Additives?" Almost half of you reported that you used it all year-round, while others used it only during winter or summer (see results to the right).

But what really is the right answer to this question?

When do you use Diesel Fuel Additives?
All the time 44.9%
Only in the summer 1.4%
Only in the winter 33.3%
Never 20.3%

A truck is a huge investment and taking proper care of even the smallest parts, like the injector nozzles, can make your rig last. Diesel fuel additive can work for you while you, and your rig, are working hard on the road.

What is a Premium Fuel Additive?
If you're talking about a fuel additive that only improves diesel fuel low temperature flow properties and fuel gelling, you have no reason to use it year-round.

But premium fuel additives can do a lot more, and used year-round, can have a real benefit on engine performance and operating costs.

Doing More With Diesel
Most diesel from the pump is plain fuel - it provides a source of energy to power your engine. But with a multi-functional fuel additive, diesel fuel can be improved so that it provides better performance.

One improvement is to increase the cetane quality of diesel fuel. This means faster cold starts, less noise on start-up, improved combustion, and fewer exhaust emissions.

Premium DFA Processing Diesel
These days, diesel fuel is more deeply processed at the refinery and many of the naturally occurring lubricity agents are removed. Using a premium diesel fuel additive can restore lost lubricity and reduce corrosive agents that can be found in today's fuels, ensuring overall reduced fuel system wear and corrosion.

Diesel, hold the water.
Water in your fuel is a constant threat to your engine. Allowed to accumulate, water can cause corrosion and biological growth in your tank. A water-shedding additive can protect against these risks.

Improving Fuel Economy!
We all know diesel combustion makes soot. It also makes deposits on the injector nozzles that can affect the amount of fuel delivered, as well as the fuel spray pattern. Year-round use of a premium diesel fuel additive helps keep fuel injectors clean. Clean injectors help improve fuel economy and engine power and also reduce emissions because the fuel is burned more efficiently.

Use DFA All Year Round! If you're looking for a multi-functional premium fuel additive that will improve your overall fuel quality and enhance your truck's overall performance, look for Shell ROTELLA™ DFA diesel fuel additive. Used year-round, it keeps fuel quality concerns under control and truck performance optimized.
