Question: I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu. My husband noticed that the left front tire tread is worn slick on the inside section but the rest of the tire has plenty of tread. Also the other 3 tires are okay. What could be causing this?
Answer: Thanks for the question. What needs to be done is to have all of the steering and suspension components checked for worn parts. Excessive slack in these parts could cause the problem, but the front end alignment needs to be checked also to make sure it is within the factory specifications. There are certain adjustments that could be out of specs causing the excessive tire wear. The alignment could be out of specs just due to everyday driving over rough roads and driving thru pot holes, etc. And of course the tire would have to be replaced because if it is worn down to where there is no tread left it is not safe to drive on.
