Case Study: Making Progress with Progress -Jel Sert Co.
A Flex-Sourcing Case Study
by Mercury Consulting Corporation

Manage ERP System maintenance and enhancements.

Jel Sert Co., a manufacturer of powdered drink mixes and juice drinks located in West Chicago, was confronted by a common challenge:

1.      Jel Sert needed to maintain and enhance their ERP system (Mfg-pro/QAD). They had attempted to hire in-house staff that would be affordable yet productive to get the work done right the first time and on-budget.

2.      The skill-set needed to meet these objectives necessitated new hires be extensively trained with some previous experience with the technologies required (Mfg-Pro/Progress 4GL).

3.      Problem was keeping trained programmers.  Recruiting costs, IT management time and project backlogs necessitated a better solution be found to Jel Sert’s long-term requirements..

Rainmakers introduced Jel Sert’s IT Management to Mercury Consulting Corp. who, on a regularly scheduled basis, deliver results on time and budget!  Read more about this Case Study in the Information Technology Topic or go to Case Study: Jel Sert article.

Case Study: Rust-Oleum Corporation
Infrastructure and Data Security Support
by Netmedic, Inc.

Case Study:   Rust-Oleum Corporation – Infrastructure and security support

Our Client

Rust-Oleum Corporation is a worldwide leader in protective paints and coatings for both home and industry. Their products range from decorative American Accents® paints to durable industrial roof repair coatings.

Technical Setting

Their daily business operations utilized an IBM System 390 main frame system. OS2 servers residing on a token ring network. and they used an outside organization to implement Windows NT.

THE CLIENT CONCERN

Rust-Oleum had several concerns/issues with their network.  First of which, the vendor they initially used did not properly execute the installation of Windows NT. This caused the log-in time to the network to be extremely slow. The only e-mail that was in place was based on the mainframe and was questionable. The reliability of the network as a whole was doubtful at best, and the network connections with remote sites were usually non-existent because they were always dropping. Another high profile problem was the lack of technical support that was in place for the end-users. Lastly, the security of the network was vulnerable.

Bob Smyk
IS Director
BMI Inc Palatine, Illinois

Our Client:
Bob is the IS Director of BMI , Inc. an electronic component manufacturing company HQ in the Chicago area with two plants in Illinois and one in Germany.

The Client Concern: Bob Smyk:

"I called Rainmakers because Jon has helped us find some hard-to-find Progress-related experts for our Illinois locations and helped resolve a Citrix performance problem. But this was different. This time I needed a varied NT and infrastructure skilled resources in Germany. To make things tougher, we were looking for someone fluent in German, and English who was willing to work on an as-needed basis. To keep our project on track we needed them to start in less than three weeks.

Frankly, I thought it was a long shot. But Jon and the staff at Rainmakers started the search immediately."
