The H3T has been engineered with trailering and HUMMER’s legendary off-road capability in mind. It starts with a modular, three-piece design built around a ladder-type foundation, which ensures outstanding chassis strength and stiffness. The suspension, which includes independent SLA torsion bar front and multi-leaf Hotchkiss-type rear components, ensures the optimal balance of comfort and capability (accentuated by the StabiliTrak electronic traction control and antilock brake systems). Heavy-duty shocks, front and rear locking differentials and low range gearing and crawl ratios make the H3T ideal for towing heavy cargo and hardcore off-roading (as do its 60 percent grade, 40 percent side-slope and 24-inch water fording capabilities).
Despite its rugged, utilitarian nature, the interior of the 2009 H3T is surprisingly luxurious and refined. Highlighted by premium materials (leather) and subtle accents, the cabin is quite comfortable. The Crew Cab comfortably seats five with fold-down seats for additional storage. An available Monsoon premium audio system (with XM Satellite Radio), an intuitive navigation system, an intelligent array of airbags and rear child-seat safety anchors round out an interior that’s as comfortable as it is functional.
