Ask Quantapoint
What Benefits can Quantapoint Provide for Historic Preservation?
With an upsurge in redevelopment projects and many national treasures being renovated from the original design, preserving the structure's historic integrity can be a major challenge. Often, there is little or no documentation of the original structure, so when renovations are made the original design can be lost.
Quantapoint helps preserve the history of the original structure. By using laser scanning to "digitize" a structure, a dimensionally accurate representation of the existing building is captured. The scanned data of the original structure becomes a "digital time capsule", preserving the rich history of an evolving structure.

Quantapoint Supports Award Winning Restoration
The Tremont Grand - Baltimore Maryland
Murphy & Dittenhafer needed to restore the Maryland Masonic Temple into an event and conference facility. This involved the restoration of the exterior structure and renovation of all interior finishes. Quantapoint documented the structure and delivered accurate, detailed drawings that were used to create floor, ceiling and roof plans, elevations, building sections and more. This resulted in reduced costs, optimized schedules, increased quality and improved safety compared to traditional techniques.
In June, the Tremont Grand was recognized by Baltimore Heritage, Inc. "I anticipate that this award will be the first of many for the Tremont Grand," said Mr. Michael Murphy. "This is a restoration project that clearly demonstrates the value of adaptively reusing historic buildings and Quantapoint played a key role in supporting the restoration."

Historically Quantapoint
Digitizing the Parthenon - Athens, Greece
The Parthenon - constructed for the goddess Athena Parthenos - is an archeological treasure that is rich with history. Having seen many changes since its first intended use, it is today a modern tourist attraction.
The Institute of Creative Technologies (ICT), a USC research lab, required photo-realistic models, documenting both geometry and reflectance properties. Quantapoint digitized the structure using our patented laser scanning technology, quickly creating a 3D digital model of the structure. ICT's algorithms were then used to create virtual views of the environment from any angle and lighting. This would not have been possible with current techniques without Quantapoint.
