JT8D Technical Update
JT8D SIR Article - Page 5: Improved Inspection Process for Hollow HPT Blades
Cracking on hollow HPT blades used on the JT8D-15A, -17A, -17AR and the JT8D-217C, -219 models continues to occur and has resulted in several unplanned engine removals. Investigation of fractured blades concluded that the old ultrasonic wall thickness inspection is inadequate. To address this, a more robust wall thickness inspection is necessary. The improved inspection process requires new ultrasonic equipment and tooling to ensure more accurate and repeatable wall thickness measurements. See the SIR for more information.

JT9D SIR Article - Page 5: JT9D External Tubing Approved Repair
Voi-Sham seals effectively prevent leakage in critical applications. They eliminate potential problems caused by nicks, scratches, and imperfect sealing surfaces or misalignment, as well as non-concentric conditions. The seals are easy to install and are effective in sealing under extreme temperature and pressure conditions. See the SIR for more details.
