St. Pete, FL -- Dr. Rajiv Sahay, CIAQP, FAIS, Lab Director with Environmental Dioagnostic Laboratory (EDLab) at Pure Air Control Serrvices has been appointed to the prestigoius American Industrial Hygiene Assosciation (AIHA) LAP, LLC, Analytical Accreditation Board (AAB) for a three-year term effective January 2010. The AAB orientation and training for new members started on January 18, 2010 in Scotsdale, AZ.

California has recently passed legislation creating the first “green” state for construction practices addressing energy conservation and environmental impact both indoors and outdoors. EPA Announces Agreement with the City of New York on PCBs in School Caulk

(New York, N.Y. – Jan. 19, 2010) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced an agreement with the City of New York to address the risks posed by PCBs in caulk found in some city schools. The agreement is intended to result in a city-wide approach to assessing and reducing potential exposures to PCBs in caulk in schools. “The work that the City of New York has agreed to do will go a long way toward helping us better understand the potential risks posed by PCBs in caulk, and our work to reduce the exposure of school children, teachers and others who work in New York City public schools,” said Judith Enck, EPA Regional Administrator.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has Recognized Eight School Districts for Their Indoor Air Quality Programs.

EPA ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental health risks. In addition to health effects such as headaches, dizziness, and fatigue, students and staff exposed to poor indoor air quality experience decreased performance and diminished concentration levels. Poor indoor air quality can make allergy and asthma symptoms worse, particularly for children. Asthma results in nearly 13 million lost school days per year.
