Tests
Uncover No Significant Air-Quality Problem

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The president of the Burlington teachers' union is urging
school administrators to address an indoor air-quality problem at the high
school.
Rebecca Smith said six teachers at
Burlington High School have developed rashes in recent years that appear to be
linked to air problems at the school.
The school performed tests in 2004
and 2005 and determined that the building had no significant air-quality
problem. In January, school officials said they would fumigate part of the
school but later canceled the plan, saying they weren't sure what it would
address.
Burlington High School principal
Amy Mellencamp has said she thinks the rashes are connected to the school's air
quality. She said the skin conditions improve during vacation and reappear when
teachers come back to work.
