Indoor air quality checks stressed
by Kamakshi Gupta, xpress4me.com
The death of two newborns at Al Wasl Hospital due to a bacterial infection has brought to the forefront the issue of indoor air quality checks in hospitals.
A senior official in Al Wasl told XPRESS that every department of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has its committee for infection control and also a central committee.
In addition, the municipality’s Public Health Department is also responsible for checking the air quality in indoor areas of Dubai such as buildings and commercial establishments. Hospitals also come under their scanner.
Yet some healthcare practitioners believe the scope and implementation of the quality checks is what really matters. A Dohms healthcare practitioner said, "Al Wasl was the first government hospital to receive accreditation from Joint Commission International (JCI) based in the US. The JCI stipulates clear policies on infection control. Yet if such an incident has occurred, then maybe the policies were not properly implemented."
