Mom says daughter got sick from mold in apartment

A mother claims her daughter became ill after being exposed to dangerously high levels of mold that were merely painted over in their Southwest Side apartment.
Khalese Alexander moved in with her mom, Alexandra Alexander, about March 15, 2006. According to a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court, dangerously high levels of mold and fungus existed in first-floor unit in the 3000 block of West Marquette Road before they moved in.
Mold and fungus was in the fixtures, walls, ceilings, floors, and windowsills of the apartment, yet the unit was rented out to tenants without any warning, inspection, or remedy of the infestation, the lawsuit claims.
The toddler's mother claims the defendants - Marquette LLC, MGP Global Real Estate, MGP Auburn Gresham IL, and Marquette Management Inc. - who owned, operated and maintained the apartment, knew or should have known about the conditions, the lawsuit said.
The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount for money to care for Khalese.
