Carrier's Infinity(TM) Air Purifier Wins Connecticut Quality Improvement Award

Carrier's Infinity(TM) Air Purifier.  (PRNewsFoto/Carrier Corp.)

FARMINGTON, Conn., July 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Carrier Corp., a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), is a 2007 Gold Winner of the Connecticut Quality Improvement Award (CQIA) Partnerships'
Innovation Prize for its Infinity(TM) Air Purifier. Carrier ranked among the top 20 of the more than 100 contenders.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans spend more than 90 percent of their time indoors where pollution levels can be two to five times -- and occasionally more than 100 times -- higher than outdoor levels. Even air in the cleanest homes can harbor dust, dirt, pollen, pet dander, mold spores and other airborne contaminants. In fact, the EPA ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks
to public health.

With millions of allergy and asthma sufferers, consumer concern about indoor air quality is on the rise. And, as the need for a practical solution became evident,  Carrier stepped up to the plate bringing years of  technology and engineering expertise to the drawing board and the result is the amazing Infinity(TM) Air Purifier. The Infinity Air Purifier has patented technology and treats 100 percent of the conditioned air to not only capture, but kill airborne germs, mold spores, bacteria, viruses and allergens. According to independent lab studies, this innovative feature
makes it unique in its ability to purify the air. No other HVAC manufacturer can make the same claim.

Innovative Response/Solution

Here's how the Infinity(TM) Air Purifier's three-step process works:

    1. First, the particles enter the device and are given an electrical
charge, making them much easier to capture.

    2. Next, the particles pass through the media cartridge where the special
fibers have an opposite charge, so the particles are attracted to them.
The particles are pulled right out of the air and cling to the fibers,
just like a small magnet sticks to the refrigerator. That's where most
air filters stop. But if the captured germs are still alive, they could
grow and possibly invade the air you breathe.

    3. So, the Infinity(TM) Air Purifier kills them. Actually, it electrocutes
them! The electrical field on the fibers breaks the cell's wall, almost
like popping a bubble. Since 100 percent of the air passing through the
furnace or air-conditioner is treated by the Infinity(TM) Air Purifier,
most of the air in the home will be treated as often as three to eight
times per hour when used as part of a complete Infinity(TM) System.

All organizations with a facility located in Connecticut were eligible to compete for the Connecticut Quality Improvement Award.
