A report released Thursday on mold issues in 11 houses at the problem-plagued Mirasol Homes public housing project verified significant mold growth in several homes and concluded that the air conditioning systems contributed to the problems.

A number of Mirasol residents have complained for months about respiratory illness and shoddy construction.
The report by the San Antonio Housing Authority, which owns the homes, found no problems in four homes.
The report was not comprehensive in scope and its results varied from similar tests done by KB Home, which built the houses. Key differences were in the types of molds discovered.

SAHA Chairman Phil Nelson said the agency is puzzled that results showed problems in occupied houses but not in unoccupied houses. SAHA, he said, will continue testing where needed and start remediation efforts.
