J. Maxwell says when she rented a Germantown condo from Adams Rentals last December she paid the rent up for six months.
Maxwell claims she and her two kids experienced problems from the start. She says her apartment is infested with roaches, spiders and mold.
Today she showed us a spider, roaches and maggot remains she says were collected around the apartment.
And Maxwell says shortly after she moved in a dead raccoon was found between the walls.
She says her landlord has made some repairs but there are still problems at the condo.
"And over my bathtub where there is water continuously, we have a vent light with no cover, there is exposed wires, there is mold and there is rust. The light has been taken out of it. The unit does work and it is an electrical hazard," says Maxwell.
Maxwell says she plans to sue for the $4,700 she paid the landlord.
Action News 5 reporter Ben Watson talked with Adams Rentals. The manager there said his company has spent $5,000 on renovations at Maxwell's apartment.
He also says that he was not aware of all of Maxwell's problems.
But he said pest control is the responsibility of the tenant.
The manager also maintains that repairs to Maxwell's apartment have been slow because she owes Adams Rentals more than $700s for utility usage.
Maxwell says that she is not responsible for the utility bill because the power was turned on so crews could do the renovations.
Maxwell says she plans to move when her lease runs out next month.
