HUDSON OAKS -- It's hidden beneath carpets and baseboards, and can travel unseen through air ducts and vents.

And Hudson Oaks City Hall is infested with it.
For months, black mold has wreaked havoc with municipal employees in this eastern Parker County city, particularly police officers, who had difficulty recuperating from illnesses.
Recent inspections showed that City Hall, built in the 1980s, has high concentrations of black mold, especially on the north side where the Police Department is located.
"I wish we could say this is a complete surprise, but the building hasn't been maintained," City Administrator Robert Hanna said.
ABOUT MOLD
Mold is a form of fungus that grows indoors and outdoors.
It can grow in moist, humid conditions and in cold weather.
Large amounts can cause health problems.
Black mold is often associated with heavy water damage.
Some people are allergic to mold, but it can also aggravate respiratory conditions such as asthma.
