Mold/IAQ Investigation - A Case Study
by TransWorldNews - Top Story

Project:  State of Florida 7 Story Office Building

Project Consultant/Contractor:  Pure Air Control Services

Project background:   When a county office building sprinkler pipe burst over a weekend, cascading thousands of gallons of water into the office building and subsequent floors below, the county immediately called upon the experts at Pure Air Control Services to determine extent of microbial damage within the building.

Books, documents were not damaged because they were on shelves above flood level. However, the county was concerned about the moisture levels, possibility of microbial growth in the interstitial spaces of the drywall, as well as the carpet microbial content, which could cause future building occupant concerns. Pure Air Control Services was retained to investigate whether or not clean-up of the facility would be sufficient to prevent mold growth and the resulting damage to the artifacts.

Pure Air Control Services building sciences division performed a comprehensive baseline assessment of the indoor environment and provided a summary report with laboratory analysis (through AIHA accredited laboratory EDLab) identifying present conditions.  Pure Air Control Services investigation found  moderate levels of microbial propagules were present in the carpeting and affected drywall and  provided a detailed remediation specification plan to ensure that the efficacy of the remediation project w ould be maintained and that the health and safety of the building occupants would be  procured for the duration of the project while the building remained opened.  Project management by Pure Air Control  Services and continued  environmental surveillance of the work sites and adjoining areas ensured that microbial conditions were maintained and potential cross contamination of other areas did not occur.

Pure Air Control Services determined that the possible health risk to employees due to fungal propagule levels was minor.  Based on Pure Air Control services investigation, baseline  assessment and project management the county building is now considered safe and healthy for occupancy.

Another mold remediation investigation and remediation project successfully completed by the professional staff at Pure air Control Services.
