Answers to Previous IEQ Question

True or false, most food allergy reactions are not dangerous?

True

False

The correct answer is False.

An allergic reaction to food is a potentially deadly condition. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology estimate that roughly 100 people die each year from food–related anaphylactic shock. This condition is characterized by difficulty breathing and a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Anyone going into anaphylactic shock should seek immediate medical attention. Food allergic people can have this deadly reaction after eating only a trace amount of an allergen. Some sensitive people can have a reaction merely by inhaling the cooking fumes of a food to which they are allergic.
