A new report shows mold spores are evident at Carter Elementary School. Those results of a recent study at the school confirm the suspicions of some parents there, but school officials say the school is still safe for students.
When parents hear the word mold, they usually have one reaction.
"Not good, knowing that my daughter's fixing to come here in August," said Carter Elementary School parent Nettie Warren.
A recent study at Carter Elementary School found slightly higher levels of mold in one of the school's classrooms when compared with the air outside.
"It's something we want to look at, but it's not something to panic about," said Knox County Schools spokesperson Russ Oaks.
That is because the report also showed there was no visible mold or conditions in which mold would be likely to grow.
"Nothing in the report will indicate that Carter Elementary is not a healthy place to be," said Oaks.
But at least one parent says she wants something done to make sure the school is mold free.
"Mold isn't good. I hope they do something about it," said Warren.
A Knox County Schools spokesperson says they will do more testing to find out if they need to take further steps.
