Is Sailing The Sea Really Paradise? Cruise Ships Raise Health Concerns ClickOnDetroit
POSTED: 5:19 pm EST March 8, 2006
A cruise may be a health risk, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site states the latest outbreak ratings.

Travel agencies make a cruise sound like paradise, but when people experience the sea firsthand they often find something different, Local 4 reported.

People are getting sick. Last week, the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas docked in Miami with hundreds of sick passengers, according to the station's reports.

Where do outbreaks occur?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site, a cruise ship was rated amongst four areas where massive outbreaks occurred.

Pam Nikitas, travel agent for Joan Anderson Travel, said she advises customers to read the small print when considering a cruise.

"It can be a one-sided contract in favor of the cruise lines," said Nikitas.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requires cruise ships to report illnesses like the norovirus virus.
