CHICAGO — Basketball star Michael Jordan has settled his multi-million-dollar lawsuit over mold contamination in his Chicago home, informed sources confirmed recently to HarrisMartin.
Jordan v. STO Corp., et al., No. 2004-L-003097 (Ill. Cir. Ct., Cook Cty.).
Details are confidential but Jordan and his wife, Juanita, settled with all defendants, sources said.
The Jordans complained in April 2004 that water intrusion was discovered in 1999, and that later investigation revealed extensive damage to the wood substrate, structural framing and interior building components [See Columns: Mold, April 2004].
After a tolling agreement expired, the Jordans sued general contractor Berke Homes, siding manufacturer STO Corp., roofing Contractor Waukegan Roofing Co., installer Mohawk Plastering Corp., and window installer Estates Windows Ltd. The Jordans sought $2.6 million in damages.
They complained that synthetic stucco, or exterior insulation finish system (EIFS), had to be replaced. The Jordans also contended that Estates Windows improperly installed windows and that Waukegan Roofing failed to properly install all necessary flashing and gutters. They maintained that a 10-year warranty was in effect for Mohawk's work, and that similar warranties covered work by Waukegan and Estates Windows.
The Jordans were represented by Frederick J. Sperling, Kevin L. Kolton and Sondra A. Hemeryck of Schiff Hardin in Chicago.
Firms representing contractor defendants included Swanson Martin Bell, Cassiday Schade & Gloor, Williams Bax & Ellis, O'Hagan Smith & Amundsen and Pretzel & Stouffer, all in Chicago.
