Learning to Use Your Pro/INTRALINK Briefcase

Pro/INTRALINK offers a Briefcase function that is highly under-utilized.  The Pro/INTRALINK Briefcase can be used to access parts, assemblies, and drawings (see Figure 1).  There is no need to run a Pro/INTRALINK Locate or navigate the multiple levels of a folder structure.  You simply manage the files in your briefcase the same way you would with the papers in a traditional briefcase.

The Briefcase is a browser that contains a user-selected group of Commonspace objects. The Briefcase browser and the objects contained within, behave the same as if the browser was a Commonspace Browser. The buttons and menus are identical to the Commonspace Browser (with the exception of Commonspace > Bookmarks which has been replaced by Commonspace > Clean Up). When an object is in a Briefcase, you can perform the following tasks:

  • Check Out
  • Modify an Object
  • Change an Object Status
  • Create a Baseline
  • Create a Branch
  • Move the Object
  • Rename the Object
  • Promote/Demote the Object
  • Delete the Object
  • View Reports or Graph
  • Any other action available in the browser window

Opening the Briefcase.  The Briefcase can be by opened by selecting View > Briefcase from a Commonspace Browser. The shortcut key combination for this menu selection is Alt+B (see Figure 2).

Adding Objects to the Briefcase.  Objects can be added to the Briefcase by selecting the objects from the Commonspace Browser, report, etc., and then selecting Object > Add to Briefcase.  The shortcut key for this menu selection is Alt+A (see Figure 3).

Removing Objects from the Briefcase.  Objects can be removed from the Briefcase by first selecting the objects in the Briefcase and making the menu selections Commonspace > Clean Up > Selected or All objects. The shortcut keys for these menu selections are Alt+S and Alt+A (see Figure 4).

Note: Selecting Object > Delete > Selected or All Versions will DELETE the objects from the Briefcase AND the Commonspace.
