Goodbye, Joe
The silence was deafening in the days after Joseph Vincent Paterno died. At the Paterno statue throughout the week, in the lines snaking across campus into the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, and in the vast crowds lining the streets of campus and State College, tens of thousands of Penn State fans were reverentially silent as they honored Coach Paterno and helped guide him home. The sad week in Happy Valley ended with a touching and often times funny memorial service that celebrated Paterno’s life.

The Sound of Music in Pittsburgh
Catch some future stars of the music world on Feb. 28 at the 6th Annual Penn State President’s Concert, which will feature nearly 200 students performing as part of the Penn State Glee Club, Opera Theatre and Philharmonic Orchestra at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Hall.

Pinking of Blue and White
While Penn State is not returning to its original school colors of pink and black, the basketball Lady Lions will be donning pink uniforms for their Feb. 26 game against Minnesota as part of Penn State’s Pink Zone efforts. Penn State’s Pink Zone has raised more than $359,000 for breast cancer causes. Can’t make it to the game? Watch it on the Big Ten Network and support the cause online.

Taking Action to Eradicate State Patty’s Day
Notwithstanding the trauma of the last three months, the basic teaching, research and service work of Penn State continues unabated. And though the crisis and the challenges it has spawned will continue well into the foreseeable future, problems old and new will confront the University in the months ahead. One immediate “old” problem is the event known as State Patty’s Day, scheduled for Feb. 25 this year.

Of all Penn State's iconic symbols, none is older or more beautiful than the Penn State elms. But after more than 100 years of gracing the University Park campus, the elms continue to be under attack and dying. They are living on through The Penn State Elms Collection, with five new exquisite pieces of furniture to carry on the elms’ special legacy.
