Joseph Vincent Paterno 1926–2012
Joseph V. Paterno, the winningest coach in the history of major college football, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, surrounded by his family at Mount Nittany Medical Center, near the University Park campus. A member of the Penn State coaching staff for 62 seasons, Paterno tremendously impacted the lives of thousands of current and former Penn State students, student-athletes and staff, Nittany Lion fans, State College community members and followers of college athletics.

In Lieu of Flowers …
The Paternos have been known for their philanthropy to the University and to other causes throughout the years. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family has requested that donations be made to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania or to THON—two organizations that Joe and Sue Paterno were deeply involved with for many years.

Viewing and Memorial Arrangements
Coach Joe Paterno’s life and legacy will be remembered in a public memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Thursday in the Bryce Jordan Center. There will also be a public viewing at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center on Penn State's University Park campus, the Paterno family announced today.
