Record 160,000 Members and Growing
The Penn State Alumni Association has become the first dues-paying alumni association ever to top the 160,000-member threshold, gaining nearly 1,000 members to reach a record high of 160,742, as of the close of the fiscal year on June 30.

Crazy Days of Summer
Iíd like to tell you that Iím writing this column in the doldrums of summer, but summer no longer offers the respite that it once did for many people, including your Alumni Association. When I joined the association five years ago, I was told that January and July were the quiet times of year, when you could relax and regroup. Those quiet times never arrived for me or for our entire staff. Let me give you a taste of what life is like in the middle of July 2008.

The Penn State Alumni Association reported to the Penn State Board of Trustees on July 12 that among its major accomplishments of the past year was a surge in membership that has made it the first dues-paying alumni association to top the 160,000-member threshold.

Annapolis, Md. Chapter
Between the water of the Chesapeake Bay and the dress uniforms of the U.S. Naval Academyís midshipmen, thereís plenty of blue and white in Annapolis. But for more than 10 years, a dedicated group of Penn State alumni have promoted the other blue and white—more commonly found on the Nittany Lions to the northwest of Marylandís capital city.
