Pennsylvania Plates Grow Student Program Fund
A little more than a year ago, a redesigned Penn State Alumni Association license
plate was launched in Pennsylvania with a purpose of helping to fund an endowment
for student programs. This month, the Penn State Alumni Association expects
to sell its 1,000th license plate and the student endowment fund is off to a
good start, boasting a balance of more than $250,000.

Promote Elections in a Positive, Acceptable Way
Nominations are currently being accepted for individuals interested in becoming
candidates for election to Penn State's Board of Trustees and Alumni Council.
The Alumni Association encourages all alumni to participate in the nomination
and election processes for these two vital governing bodies. However, please
remember that affiliate groups of the Alumni Association must refrain from publicly
endorsing, supporting, or campaigning to elect individual candidates.

Hair-Based Networking Event Draws Alumnae
Networking events can sometimes be rather stuffy affairs. The usual cocktail party
talk about work in a bar or, worse yet, in a non-descript meeting room. But the
Professional Women’s Network of New York AIG put a new twist on networking
by sponsoring a “Good Hair Day” networking event in January at a hot
SOHO salon.

Dallas Chapter Aims High With Shooting Event
Just like most chapters, the North Texas (Dallas) Chapter was looking for an
event that would be different and appeal to its members. The group found skeet
shooting and has been organizing this friendly shooting competition twice a
year since.

FastStart Students Serve Community On MLK Day
Several hundred Penn State students rolled up their sleeves and spent Martin
Luther King Jr. Day performing community service throughout the Centre Region.
And some of the busiest students were those in the Alumni Association’s
FastStart program, the mentoring program for first-year underrepresented students
at University Park.

Magical, Musical Theatre: Photos from the 2006 Tour
With Broadway show tunes like “I Got Rhythm,” “I Want to Be
a Rockette,” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” Penn State’s

and prospective students on their 2006 Musical Theatre Tour.

February 2, 1973: First Dance Marathon was Launched
With “Jumping Jack Flash” by The Rolling Stones rocking the HUB
ballroom, 39 couples took to the dance floor at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2, 1973,
launching what was to become the most successful student-run philanthropy in
the country.
