[ A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ]
|
In the Hintz Family Alumni Center last week, seven doctoral students from New Orleans who are studying here at Penn State told their stories of Hurricane Katrina at a press conference. How the hurricane trapped their families. How they didn’t know for a day or two if their family members were safe. How they were panicked about their families’ whereabouts. One student didn’t know for a couple of days whether her five-year-old daughter and her firefighter husband were still alive. Thankfully, all of these students’ family members are now safe and sound—and several have already settled in State College.

Paterno's First Win in 1966 Was Inauspicious Start
The actual Beaver Stadium crowd of 37,270 on Sept. 16, 1966 was about 9,000 less than capacity, and none of the spectators realized the first victory of Joe Paterno's head coaching career would be so historic. That's how Lou Prato '59, director of the Penn State All-Sports Museum, described Paterno's first game in a story, synopsized here, for "Paterno 324," a commemorative magazine published by The Barash Group and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics.
