Driving north past Philipsburg, Pa., last month to connect with I-80, I chanced upon Morrisdale, an old stringtown astride Route 53. Morrisdale presented a most distressing tableau: Ramshackle houses, parts of which were patched with tarpaper; the occasional rusted car perched atop cement blocks, in a Godot-like wait for the repair job that will never come; junk and scrap piled in various yards.

New President, Vice President Took Office July 1
The Penn State Alumni Association has a new president and vice president. According to the rules of succession for the Alumni Association, former Vice President Lewis H. Gold '59 became the 74th president of the Penn State Alumni Association on July 1. At the same time, David C. Han '88, '05g became the new vice president, and Marianne Ellis Alexander '62 moved into the immediate past president role.

Ten Elected, Three Appointed to Serve on Alumni Council
In this year's Alumni Council election, which ended May 31, nearly 14,000 Alumni Association members cast ballots and elected 10 alumni to the Association's 86-member governing body. In addition, new Alumni Association President Lewis H. Gold '59 appointed three members to Council.
