“Wish, Wack—Pink, Black! P! S! C!” Not since 1887 had that cheer reverberated through the hills of old Penn State. On a gorgeous late summer afternoon last week, a group of ten enthusiastic students and I revived Penn State’s first football cheer in celebration of the University’s Sesquicentennial year. We are about to celebrate the 150th with the Sesquicentennial Games—sponsored by the Blue & White Society and the Lion Ambassadors.

Alumni Association announces Alumni Fellow recipients
The Penn State Alumni Association has announced the recipients of the Alumni Fellow, the most prestigious award given by the Alumni Association. "The Alumni Fellow program gives us the opportunity to showcase to the world the incredible contributions Penn Staters make to the betterment of the human condition," said Roger L. Williams ’73, ’75g, ’88g. This year, twenty-six Penn State alumni are being honored for outstanding professional accomplishment.

Delaware Chapter hosts alumni happy hour at Dewey Beach

On July 31, nearly 100 alumni from various east coast chapters gathered in Dewey Beach, Delaware, for the Penn State beach party.

Alumni Association student groups claim national awards
The Blue & White Society has been named one of the three best student organizations in the country by the Association of Student Advancement Programs (ASAP). The Lion Ambassadors organization, Penn State’s student alumni corps, also was recognized with a national award. Both groups are sponsored by the Alumni Association.

September 1922: Emergency Building Fund marks early effort to raise private funds for expansion
The faculty was overworked and underpaid. The need for additional buildings on campus was critical. State appropriations and other revenue continued to fall short of the amount needed. This was Penn State in the years following World War I. To help meet the growing need, an Emergency Building Fund was established in September 1922.
