125 Years of Football Starts with Blue-White Weekend

Article related photo.Kick off 125 years of Penn State football this spring with Blue-White Weekend, April 15–17. Get a glimpse into the 2011 Nittany Lions’ season while spending a fun-filled weekend in Happy Valley. All the activities of Blue-White Weekend make it a must on everyone’s spring calendar.

Penn State starts its 125th season Sept. 3 against Indiana State at Beaver Stadium, but fans can jumpstart this historic season during the Blue-White Game at 2:00 p.m., April 16. Admission and parking are free.

About 70,000 blue-white faithful attend this team scrimmage to see firsthand what the next season will look like. The Nittany Lions return 16 starters for the 2011 season, as well as 17 players who have starting experience. The 2011 season features a home game against Alabama, the first time the Crimson Tide have visited Happy Valley since 1989.

One of the highlights of the Blue-White Game is the autograph signing session before kickoff. Fans can get their favorite players’ signatures beginning at noon.

In addition to the game, there is other family fun to be had—from the carnival surrounding Beaver Stadium to a pre-game parade to fireworks. And other Penn State athletes will also be in action:

Also on the schedule of events is the Beaver Stadium 5K Run/Family Fun Walk at 10:00 a.m., Sunday. Last year’s event raised more than $35,000 for Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. The event starts at the Bryce Jordan Center and travels through campus before participants finish inside Beaver Stadium.

The Blue-White Game will air on the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUSports.com. For more information on Blue-White Weekend, visit www.GoPSUSports.com.
