New President, Vice President Took Office July 1
The Penn State Alumni Association has a new president and vice president. According to the rules of succession for the Alumni Association, former Vice President Lewis H. Gold '59 became the 74th president of the Penn State Alumni Association on July 1. At the same time, David C. Han '88, '05g became the new vice president, and Marianne Ellis Alexander '62 moved into the immediate past president role.
Following are brief bios on the new president and vice president:
Lew Gold became president after serving two years as the Association's vice president and serving since 1995 on Alumni Council, the Alumni Association's governing body. He has chaired several committees within the Alumni Association and is a past president of the Liberal Arts Alumni Society Board of Directors. In 2000, Gold was honored with the College of the Liberal Arts Alumni Society's "Service to Penn State Award."
A shareholder and president of Adelman Lavine Gold and Levin in Philadelphia, Gold's areas of practice include corporate and business law, commercial litigation, and bankruptcy. In 2004 and 2005, Gold was cited as one of Pennsylvania's Super Lawyers in Philadelphia magazine. In addition to his many Penn State volunteer posts, Gold sits on the board of the Abramson Center for Jewish Life.
Gold lives in Jenkintown, Pa., with his wife, Karen. They have two grown daughters: Sara and Judith, a 1995 Penn State graduate.
David C. Han is moving into the vice president's role after serving on Alumni Council since 2000. He has served on both the Nominating Committee and the Membership Committee, chairing it since 2003. Han has served on the Alumni Association Executive Board since 2001 and was elected vice president this past spring.
After graduating from Penn State in 1988, Han went on to earn his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1992 and an M.S. from the Penn State College of Medicine in 2005. He is currently a vascular surgeon at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, as well as an assistant professor of surgery and radiology, director of vascular research, and program director of the vascular surgery fellowship at the Penn State College of Medicine. He lives in Hummelstown with his wife, Elizabeth; son, Andrew; and daughter, Abigail.
