Northern N.J. Chapter hosts THON golf outing to help fight childhood cancer

Text. On May 10, 2004, the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, in partnership with the IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON), hosted the Penn State Dance Marathon “Swinging for the Kids” Golf Outing in Florham Park, N.J.

More than 100 golfers competed in a tournament to benefit the Four Diamonds Fund whose mission is “to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children treated at Penn State Children’s Hospital [in Hershey] and their families through superior care, comprehensive support, and innovative research.”

Roger L. Williams ’73, ’75g, ’88g also spoke at the event, thanking the chapter for all that it does to connect members of the Penn State family. He noted that no other state outside of Pennsylvania is home to more Penn State alumni than New Jersey. Of the 20,000 alumni living in New Jersey, 7,000 live within the service area of the Northern New Jersey Chapter.

Chapters from Western Pa., New York City, Philadelphia, and the tri-state area were also represented. Committee chair Jim Napolitano summed up the event as “truly a Penn State day.”
