“Basking in the bright sunlight and 75 degree temperature, the fans—many of whom had already spent several hours practicing their tailgaiting skills—had a chance to talk with their favorite players and get their autographs before the…kickoff of the pseudo-game that each year gives the players a chance to have some fun after 14 days of grueling drills, while the fans get enough of a football fix to carry them through until the fall.” John Black’s Football Letter from April 2000 captures the essence of what makes Blue-White weekend one of the most popular spring events on the University Park campus.
The annual spring football game will once again highlight a very busy Blue-White weekend. The game will kick off at 1:30 p.m., on April 24. The popular autograph session with the players is tentatively scheduled to run from 12:00–12:45 p.m. This year's game will not be televised, but can be heard on Penn State Sports Network radio affiliates, as well as online at www.GoPSUsports.com.
This year’s Blue-White festivities will also mark the third anniversary of the dedication of the Hintz Family Alumni Center. The Center will observe extended hours during Blue-White weekend; alumni and friends are encouraged to visit the Center while on campus.
The weekend will also be a busy one for many Alumni Association groups. The Association’s governing board—Alumni Council—will hold it’s semi-annual meeting on Thursday, April 22 and Friday, April 23. The steering committee of the Penn State Grassroots Network—a political advocacy group sponsored by the Association—will meet on Saturday, April 24. And a number of affiliate groups will hold board meetings on the University Park campus to coincide with the weekend’s festivities.
