RealLife program offers revenue source for alumni groups
Affiliate groups of the Penn State Alumni Association now have another option in generating funds for group events and activities. The RealLife program, in its second year, rewards groups for their efforts in recruiting new life members to the Alumni Association.

The Penn State Alumni Association still ranks as the world’s largest dues-paying alumni association. However, we’re No. 4 in total life members. In an effort to climb in the rankings, and provide an additional revenue source for our groups at the same time, we’ve enlisted our volunteers in the effort to recruit new life members. Few people can talk more convincingly about the value of membership in the Alumni Association than our dedicated volunteer leaders.

So here’s how it works: Each group will receive $50 for every new life member it recruits during the fiscal year. Each group has been assigned a unique three-digit code that has been provided to the group leader. Group codes can also be obtained by calling the Alumni Association at 800-548-LION, option 3. Please note your group’s code on all publications and membership applications.

At the end of the fiscal year—June 30—the Alumni Association will tally the total number of life members recruited by each group. At that time, payment will be made to each group based on its number of recruits.

Last year, the Engineering Alumni Society received $800 for bringing 16 new life members into the Association. This is just one of the many success stories of this relatively new program.

Please note that this program rewards you not only for recruiting brand new Association members—as life members—but also for converting current annual members to life members.

We’ll continue to share more information about this program with you. In the meantime, if you have questions about how your group can begin to work with the Association in this win-win effort, please do not hesitate to contact your regional director.
