Traditional powwow offers special volunteer opportunities
With the support of the Penn State Alumni Association, Penn State and the State College Area School District will again be sponsoring a traditional American Indian powwow. This year’s event, entitled “New Faces of an Ancient People,” will be held April 3-4 at the Mount Nittany Middle School (656 Brandywine Dr.) in State College, and volunteer opportunities are still available.

Featuring American Indian drum, dance, and food, the traditional powwow is a contemporary social gathering and celebration of community. The event will include American Indian vendors offering arts and crafts items. Doors open at 10 a.m. with Grand Entry scheduled for 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

A number of exciting volunteer opportunities are still available. Alumni and friends interested in assisting with the event are encouraged to contact powwow coordinator John Sanchez at 814-863-7994 or apache@psu.edu for more information. Details are also available on the Web at http://www.powwow.psu.edu.
