Once near extinction, Aiken-Augusta Chapter roars back
This month’s affiliate group spotlight shines on the Aiken-Augusta Chapter. Nearly extinct just a few years ago, the Aiken-Augusta Chapter is now thriving. With close to 100 members, the chapter has enrolled nearly one-third of all alumni in its region.

With the reestablishment of a strong membership base, Aiken-Augusta has expanded its schedule of activities and community service events. Its year-round service schedule includes a program in the fall that serves to honor deceased alumni from the area. The chapter’s annual golf tournament helps to fund scholarships for area students attending Penn State—including three scholarships of $500 last year. With the goal of providing full out-of-state tuition scholarships to deserving students, the chapter set out to raise $25,000 in three years. Eclipsing that mark in nearly half the allotted time, the group’s scholarship fund now totals nearly $35,000.
