For the Future: The Campaign for Membership Growth
In an effort to maintain the status as the nation’s largest alumni association, Penn State’s Alumni Council--the governing body of the Penn State Alumni Association--announced in November plans for a three-year membership campaign, entitled “For the Future.” “Being number one has become a point of pride for Penn Staters everywhere,” said Roger Williams, Alumni Association executive director. “However, for us to maintain that unique status, it is imperative that we increase our rate of membership growth.”

Being the world’s largest alumni association, however, is not the only goal of the new campaign. The Alumni Association continues to enhance its unparalleled support of the University. Through support of University projects and funding for student scholarships and fellowships, the Alumni Association is enhancing Penn State’s reputation as a leading American university. The increased revenue generated by membership growth will allow the Association to continue its support of the University and students while also enabling the Association to expand upon the benefits and programs offered to members.

Finally, this membership campaign will enable us to diversify the membership of the Association. “Campaign efforts will help attract underrepresented alumni such as alumni of color, women, alumni with graduate degrees, international alumni, undergraduate students, and their parents, just to name a few,” said Williams.

A win/win proposition. Here’s how your alumni group can get involved in the campaign:

Here’s how it works. Each affiliate group has a unique three-digit code. Your group leader has this code, or you can call the Alumni Association to find your code. Please note your alumni group code on membership applications and in your group publications. These codes will be recorded upon receipt. At the end of each fiscal year--June 30--the membership office will begin to tally the number of new life members recruited by each group throughout the year. Payments of $50 per new life member recruit will be made. Last year, the College of Engineering Alumni Society earned $800 by recruiting 16 new life members to the ranks. Let’s see if we can top that number this year.

Each month, through our new e-newsletter initiative, we’ll keep you up to date on the progress of our “For the Future” membership campaign and share ideas for recruiting new life members. Together, we can make Penn State better--now, and for the future.
