Good Habits are Hard to Break
A Day in the Life of a Sales Pro
www.GerryLayo.com
by Gerry Layo
Occasionally I have the opportunity to reflect when preparing some material for a newsletter or a presentation. This morning presented such an opportunity as I was flying out to the East Coast for a group of presentations on time effectiveness for sales professionals and business leaders. While standing in the endless lines, sitting in the airline terminal waiting for the plane to board, and again waiting until we reached cruising altitude, I made some notes of everything that I had done thus far in this day.

CLOSING--It's NOT a Four Letter Word!
Finish What You Start
www.GerryLayo.com
by Gerry Layo
Although I do not typically use (nor even care for) the term "closing" (do any of us ever want to be closed?), I do believe that we occasionally need to address the subject. Without doing what it is that we need to do to "complete" a particular transaction, we sales professionals have NOT done our jobs!

From Sales Manager to "Coach"--A Journey Worth Taking
www.SalesCoachIntnl.com
by Dan Larson-SCI Coach
The best teams typically have strong leadership on the field as well as strong coaches helping to design and call the plays, sharpen up the skills, and hold everyone accountable for RESULTS! Here is an "oldie but goodie" article from the archives with an exciting announcement at the end:
The word “coaching” is starting to be used so often these days that it is truly losing it’s meaning and effectiveness. Too many mangers/leaders are using the word in an attempt to separate themselves. Words and phrases, however, do nothing to separate those who can and do from everyone else. ACTION is the thing that does that! Below are several actions that you as a business leader can do to stop talking it and to start walking it—Become a Coach to your people and watch your sales and profits head for the sky!

What Gerry's Reading Now:
|
|
|

Where Have All The Leaders Gone? is the most recent book by one of the most outspoken, inspiring, and successful leaders in American history, Lee Iacocca. Although the book appears to be a brief manifesto of the current state of affairs of the the USA and it's current leadership, I took it as a call to action for the nation to become less "disintersted observers" and helpless victims to the things facing us today in politics, education, obesity, and more! I happen to be a big fan of Iacocca's direct style and no-nonsense approach.
In the book, Iacocca introduces us to the "nine C's of Leadership" that can be applied to leadership of the country as well as leadership of a company: Curiosity-Creativity-Communication-Character-Courage-Conviction-Charisma-Competence-Common Sense. By using interesting life experiences (this guy has led quite a life), Iacocca entertains throughout the book and SMACKS the reader across the face to WAKE UP and get a sense of pride in ourselves and our country again!
