IDC has named Progress Software as the largest pure-play embedded database management system (DBMS) vendor in the IDC, "Worldwide Embedded DBMS 2010-2013 Forecast and 2008 Vendor Shares," Report with the Progress® OpenEdge® business application development platform. More than 1,500 Application Partners use the Progress OpenEdge Platform to develop, deploy, manage their business applications and increase their operational responsiveness.

The report, written by Carl W. Olofson, states that "Progress has been a leading player in this space for over a quarter of a century, offering a range of products for ISVs to use in building and deploying their applications. Those products are to be found in the OpenEdge family. The company attributes its success in this area to the coupling of technical innovation with strong, intimate support for its ISV customers."
