WHO MAKES PROGRESS

BOC International Holdings Limited (BOCI), the wholly owned investment bank of Bank of China, has selected the Progress Apama Algorithmic Trading Platform to strengthen its investment banking infrastructure. BOCI, already well-positioned to offer its clients with a wide range of investment banking products and services, will now be able to use their own sophisticated trading algorithms to automatically trade across multiple exchanges. Stephen Chan, Managing Director, Head of Planning Division, of BOCI said, “We are constantly looking for ways to add value to the products and services we offer our clients and to increase our competitive advantages. By using the Progress Apama algorithmic trading platform, we will be able to further refine our existing trading strategies, optimize market execution, better manage risk and ultimately increase our profitability.” Read the press release for more information.

Turquoise, the pan-European equity trading platform backed by nine of Europe's leading investment banks, has gone live with its deployment of the Progress Apama CEP platform as part of its real-time and post-trade market surveillance system. With its use of Progress Apama, Turquoise can assure traders that Turquoise has the electronic technology in place to capture breaches of trading rules and root out market irregularities, thereby ensuring a fair and open market. With market participants increasingly sensitive to potential market manipulation and other abuses, the complex event processing (CEP) capabilities of the Progress Apama platform offer real-time monitoring services that can help ensure the integrity of Turquoise transactions. Don't Forget the Data When Implementing a Service-Oriented Architecture

Progress is advising enterprises on how to solve the semantic data integration challenges that arise when embarking on a service-oriented architecture (SOA). As SOA adoption continues to grow, data integration is rapidly emerging as one of the key challenges facing IT organizations. The pain stems from the fact that different systems use different terms to represent the same logical concept. Manually reconciling and validating data exchanged between internal and external systems adds greatly to the cost of business integration. As businesses transition application functionality into reusable services across the enterprise, they must find a way to reconcile the semantic differences, the differences in meaning. Creating an SOA without a data integration strategy to address these semantic challenges will limit an SOA project at best, and doom it to failure at worst. Find out about the five main steps required to create a data interoperability layer for an SOA.

Survey Shows Complex Data Integration Projects Challenge Communications Providers; Over 80 Percent of Respondents Recognize Need for Common Information Model

Progress® Software has revealed survey results that identify the urgent need for the use of common information models to simplify complexity in communications providers’ integration projects. The results are derived from a survey administered at TM Forum’s Management World Dallas 2007 and Management World Nice 2008. Through the survey, a total of 673 respondents weighed in on key business and integration challenges and highlighted the fact that the use of common information models is spreading across the enterprise. Moreover, respondents acknowledged that adopting a common information model is mandatory to reduce the cycle time to implement key initiatives and deliver new products to market while also reducing risk and maintenance costs, a combination that ultimately positions the business to enhance customer service and satisfaction. Promised Agility in Real-World Complexity

The vision is powerful. Service-oriented architecture (SOA) promises you greater agility to respond to changing business requirements. SOA makes it easier to create new processes and change existing process faster. With SOA, you can drive business efficiency and serve your customer better.
The promise is achievable, but real-world complexity presents technical and organizational challenges. Your SOA must span systems running on many computers, managed by different IT groups located anywhere around the world. Your SOA must coherently unite multiple vendors' applications, application platforms, and data sources. And your SOA must be fast, reliable, scalable, and secure.
