OU's Blake Griffin's Dunk Optima Here at Primeaux KIA
Slam-Dunk Optima has its home at Primeaux KIA
In February, Blake Griffin jumped over the hood of a car to dunk a basketball and give Oklahoma an NBA slam-dunk champion.
Now, some three months later, Henry Primeaux has brought the car to Oklahoma.
Primeaux, president of Primeaux Kia and co-owner of the Tulsa Talons, won the 2011 Kia Optima in a May 15 charity auction with a bid of $35,220. The money went to Stand Up To Cancer, a fundraising organization benefiting cancer research.
"It was for a good cause and I thought a Kia dealer needed to step up," said Primeaux, who said he won over bids from Kia dealers in Chicago and Los Angeles.
Griffin autographed and donated the car to Stand Up For Cancer after winning the Sprite Slam Dunk competition in Los Angeles on Feb. 19.
The former University of Oklahoma standout and NBA Rookie of the Year with the Los Angeles Clippers was honoring the memory of his late friend, Wilson Holloway.
Holloway, a former Oklahoma Christian School teammate of Griffin's, went on to play football at the University of Tulsa. He died Feb. 16 after a three-year battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was 22.
"I am honored to memorialize Wilson's legacy by helping raise funds for cancer research," Griffin said in a Tulsa World article.
In addition to Griffin's donation, Stand Up To Cancer announced the creation of Team Blake: In honor of My Friend Wilson Holloway, a fundraising outlet through which the public can contribute at tulsaworld.com/blakedunk
Primeaux's new car was delivered earlier this week. He has it on display at Primeaux Kia, 4747 S. Yale Ave. He plans to keep it for a while and eventually use it to raise more money for Griffin's charity.
"I'm not in any hurry to get rid of it. I may use it for a fundraiser. I plan to talk to (Griffin) and see if he has any ideas. We might just wait until basketball season and raffle it off," Primeaux said.
