Kia is constantly on the cutting-edge of design and forward thinking. Nowhere is “The Power to Surprise” more evident than in the design evolution of Kia’s concept cars.

Leading the way is the futuristic Kia POP, an all-electric concept vehicle that made its debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. The POP runs on compact lithium polymer gel batteries and features a transparent organic LED panel and an illuminated grille. Inspired by lightweight, aerodynamic items such as gliders and high-tech bicycles, the POP takes up just a little over three yards of parking space.
Another recently released concept car is the KV7, which takes the conventional van to a new level. Unveiled at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the KV7 features a gull wing door, tabletop computer and custom-built swiveling seats. The KV7 is perfect for social outings, road trips or the next family adventure. This car is definitely not the minivan you grew up riding to soccer practice in.
Proving that green technology is the new way of life, the Kia RAY is a model of efficiency. A four-seat compact sedan, the RAY is a plug-in hybrid that features touchscreen controls, drive-by-wire steering, roof top “cool-glazing” solar glass and a lithium-polymer battery. The RAY has a range of up to 746 miles.
The aggressive and sophisticated KND-5 is the next generation of a luxury sedan. The car features LED headlamps, a seamless panoramic sunroof and 20-inch alloy wheels.
In the crossover concept realm, the revolutionary KUE offers 400 hp, a supercharged V8 and all-wheel drive. Designed as a driver’s vehicle first and foremost, the KUE takes the exhilaration and performance of a standard crossover to record heights. Likewise, the two-door sports coupe Kia KEE is focused on the overall experience of performance driving.
Rounding out Kia’s concept lineup is the SOUL’STER, derived from the original Soul model. The SOUL’STER features an open-air concept that provides a hip, industrial look to a revamped design of the Soul. Features include dual chrome exhausts and 19-inch aluminum wheels.
Through its collection of impressive and exciting concept cars, Kia has its fingers on the pulse of innovative design and technology. Designers are constantly coming up with new ideas that just might be the next big thing in the automotive industry. Kia will continue to innovate and more importantly, will continue to surprise.
