There are certain prerequisites you’d expect in a premium luxury sedan such as a powerful engine, ultra-comfortable ride quality, cutting-edge infotainment technology that’s easy to use and the latest in safety advancements. Consider those “givens,” but also consider that until Lexus introduced the original LS, they were not givens in luxury sedans.
You’d expect any luxury car to offer a powerful engine, not for its own sake, but for the luxurious feeling of effortless acceleration and passing. The first Lexus LS made a powerful V8 the “price of entry” to the premium segment at a time when European luxury brands offered mainly six-cylinder engines. The 2011 Lexus LS 460 models remain exclusively V8 and V8/hybrid powered.
The standard 4.6-liter V8 produces 380 hp, a long way from the original’s 250 hp with better fuel efficiency thanks to advancements in powertrain and transmission technology. The eight-speed automatic transmission helps optimize performance and efficiency. A Lexus LS 460 moves swiftly, yet silently, achieving zero-to-60 mph in about 5.4 seconds. The LS 460 is also rated at 24 mpg on the highway.
Long known for its road-smoothing, quiet ride, the Lexus LS continues to set the standard in this area. For those who prefer a more performance-oriented driving experience, the available Sport Package equips the supremely comfortable LS with 19-inch forged alloy wheels, Brembo®
brakes and a sport-tuned air suspension. The exterior gets a sporty flair with a distinctive aero kit while inside, the package adds an exclusive perforated black/saddle leather interior with sport front seats, a unique leather-trimmed steering wheel and paddleshifters.
Even with the Sport Package, the Lexus LS 460 delivers a ride quality that truly pampers the driver and passengers. Take a long trip in a Lexus LS and you’ll arrive fatigue-free, especially with the available air suspension.
Laminated glass and myriad structural features keep all forms of outside noise where it belongs – outside. Then, consider the attention that has been paid to the sounds you do hear: Lexus tuned the sound of the doors opening and closing by studying the sounds of high-end wood doors in luxury homes. Engineers even specially tuned the sounds made by onboard motors for all the power assists.
Included in the LS 460 MSRP of $67,130 you’ll find a 16-way power driver’s seat and 12-way power front passenger’s seat, power tilt/telescope steering wheel, dual zone automatic climate control, a wood-and-leather trimmed steering wheel, a power tilt/slide moonroof, a center console display with integrated backup camera and a Lexus 10-speaker Premium Sound System. All LS models come equipped with High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights and the dual-swivel Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), which steers the lights into the curves. For added comfort, all-wheel drive models also feature a standard heated steering wheel that’s available for other models.
The available 19-speaker, 450-watt Mark Levinson® Reference Surround-Sound system will enthrall music lovers with its power and uncanny clarity. It’s offered in conjunction with a navigation system that employs voice command with casual-language-based voice recognition.
Emphasizing the luxury of choice, the Lexus LS 460 offers four leather-and-wood-trimmed interior combinations. Available packages let you take luxury to still higher levels in the Lexus LS.
If you prioritize rear-seat room, explore the “L” long-wheelbase model, which also comes equipped with additional luxury amenities including climate-controlled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a power rear sunshade and a one-touch open/close power trunk. The package’s Intuitive Park Assist even helps parallel-park the car for you (or a chauffeur).
Speaking of a chauffeur, the “L” model, also available with all-wheel drive, offers two different rear-seat packages that make the car suitable for driver duty. The special-order Executive Class Seating Package, for example, equips the entire rear-seat area with a level of luxury that rivals sedans costing upward of a quarter-million dollars including reclining massage seats, ottoman passenger’s seat and a rear seat DVD entertainment system with power-opening nine-inch VGA screen.
You have choices in the premium luxury sedan category; come in and see why the Lexus LS models raise the luxury quotient to a level others try to emulate.
