The 2010 Ford Fusion Overtakes the Competition in Terms of Fuel Economy and Performance
Fusion’s Sport trim and amazingly efficient four-cylinder engine top its class.

Completely redesigned for the 2010 model year, the Fusion is Ford’s primary weapon in the midsize family car fight. Launched in one of the most heavily contested automobile markets in North America, the Fusion aims to inject a little excitement into its class.

When parked side-by-side, it is easy to see the philosophical differences between the avant-garde Fusion’s bodywork and that of its competitors. The Fusion invites the eye to linger over its smoothed edges and broad grille. Slab sides give way to muscular wheel arches that exude power and confidence, helping the Fusion achieve the type of presence usually associated with a much larger car.

Starting at an MSRP of $19,270, the 2010 Ford Fusion’s distinctiveness is more than just skin-deep. The Fusion offers three different engines, ranging from a peppy four-cylinder to two engaging V6’s. The base Fusion’s 2.5-liter Duratec inline-four generates 175 hp and 172 lb/ft of torque. Available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, this engine impresses in terms of fuel economy with a rating of 23 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, estimates that best every other midsize family car currently available.

The Fusion offers both a value-oriented six-cylinder engine, as well as a unit that provides a performance edge. The sedan’s 3.0-liter Duratec V6 engine produces 240 hp and 223 lb/ft of torque while turning in fuel mileage of 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The top-of-the-line 3.5-liter Duratec V6 engine develops 263 hp and 248 lb/ft. In addition to its six-speed automatic transmission, the V6 Fusion adds an extra dimension – available all-wheel drive – which makes the Ford not only safer, but also almost unstoppable when it comes to snowy roads or other inclement weather conditions.

The Fusion comes in five different trim levels, and Ford’s decision to include a Sport edition of their midsize four-door is another indication that the vehicle marches to the beat of a different drummer. Intended to offer drivers with a more engaging driving experience, the Fusion Sport is bundled with the 3.5-liter V6 and can be ordered with all-wheel drive. In terms of looks, the Sport’s headlights have a more aggressive treatment, and large foglight openings add to the overall race-inspired look of the sedan. Dual exhaust tips and a unique bumper are complemented by a trunk-mounted spoiler out back. The Sport edition of the Fusion rides on a special suspension that is tuned to provide far more road feedback in addition to greater responsiveness to driver inputs.

From inside the passenger compartment, it is clear that the 2010 Ford Fusion has also taken things to a new level when it comes to comfort, convenience and quality. Front and rear headroom are generous, even for six-footers, and front legroom also lends to total comfort. For cargo, the Fusion’s 16.5 cubic foot trunk capacity is 16.5 cubic feet, good for the weekend getaways and longer road trips. A number of interesting options, such as a moonroof, improved stereo system, a backup warning system and the Sport trim’s unique interior colors and seat fabrics liven up the Fusion’s interior. These are in addition to standard equipment that, depending upon trim level, can include the Microsoft SYNC communications and entertainment system, heated leather seats, dual climate controls, heated mirrors and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. In addition, optional safety features include a blind-spot warning system, a rearview camera and a voice-activated navigation system.

The 2010 Ford Fusion is positioned to attract new buyers thanks to its impossible-to-ignore performance, best-in-class fuel economy and a fun-to-drive experience that are all too rare in midsize sedans. Your test drive will convince you that Fusion is a great choice.
