Phones, MP3 players, tablets and other devices are all equipped with Bluetooth connectivity. The SENSUS system in your Volvo allows you to connect with all of your Bluetooth enabled devices wirelessly, providing a range of functions from downloading your phonebook to playing your favorite music. But the first step is pairing your device. Here’s a simple primer on how to do it:

Step 1: Make sure your phone is in “DISCOVERABLE” mode

Just because your device is on doesn’t mean it’s in discoverable mode. Many people choose to turn off the discoverable mode because it saves battery life. Depending on which device you use, the discoverable mode will typically be accessed through the “Settings” menu.

Step 2: From the SENSUS main menu, find the “telephone” icon and select it

The telephone icon looks like a telephone handset and is the fourth from the top. Select that icon to begin the procedure.

Step 3: Select “Connect,” then “Add Phone” from the menu

Step 4: Press the OK button on the SENSUS dial to being the search for your phone

Step 5: Scroll to select your phone on the menu

If you’ve paired phones before, there will be a list of phones available. However, if this is your first time pairing a phone, your phone will be preselected.

Step 6: Enter the “Passcode” numbers that appear on the screen into your phone’s keypad.

TIP: If your Volvo doesn’t detect your phone this way, return to the main telephone menu and select “Phone Settings.” On this screen, select “Discoverable.” This makes the Volvo discoverable. On your phone screen, look for MYVOLVOCAR. You’ll be prompted for the passkey. Enter any four digits and press OK. You’ll then be prompted by your Volvo to enter the same four digits. Confirm using the OK button and your phone should be paired.

You can pair several different devices, but be aware that SENSUS will always highlight the last device paired, even if it’s not the one that’s currently in the car.
