The award-winning Volvo C70 (2013 MSRP $40,990) is a sporty convertible that features a retractable hardtop (which stows itself neatly in the trunk), standard turbocharged performance and famed Volvo safety technology. Four adults will find comfortable seating within this classically-handsome convertible. Top up or down, the C70 features rugged construction and safety features like door-mounted side-curtain airbags that offer head protection even when the top is retracted and the windows are down. The front-drive C70 offers T5, T5 Premier Plus and T5 Platinum versions.
With a standard T5 turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the C70 delivers 227 hp and 236 lb/ft of torque across a broad rpm range, making the car feel responsive and satisfying. The highly-refined C70 Inscription Package is continued into 2013, as well, which features even more performance thanks to engine tuning by Polestar. The Polestar tune turns up the heat to 250 hp and 273 lb/ft of torque, and Volvo enhances the visuals with a gloss-black grille, LED daytime running lamps with chrome trim, 18-inch Midir wheels with high-gloss black spokes, and a rear spoiler. Long known for its wagons, the 2013 Volvo XC70 (MSRP starting at $33,450) is a modern spin on the classical form. With front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive, increased ride height and muscular styling, the XC70 has the capabilities of a crossover with the efficiency of a car. The five-passenger XC70 is easy to load, and the versatile 40/20/40 split rear seat and folding front passenger seat open up all kinds of loading options. There's 300 hp on tap in the XC70 T6 with the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder powertrain, and a properly equipped XC70 can tow up to 3,300 pounds.
The 2013 XC70 has a few new tricks up its sleeve, like a “Sport” mode for the six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission in the T6, and the available Active High Beam system that automatically switches headlights to low-beam operation when oncoming traffic is detected.
