Vehicle Overview: 2013 Volvo lineup

Classic style and safety for everyone

Volvo cars have defining traits that run through the entire lineup. These common threads are safety, comfort and distinctive style. You always know you're looking at a Volvo thanks to defining design cues like a strongly-curved "shoulder" in the bodywork, high-set and highly visible taillamps, and the trademark diagonal grille bar. With a line that varies from compact hatchbacks to three-row SUVs, there's a Volvo for everyone, and each model has been updated for 2013.
The 2013 Volvo C30 (MSRP starting at $25,500) is a uniquely-styled small car that fills the role of coupe and hatchback at the same time. With classic Volvo cues, like an all-glass tailgate that recalls the P1800ES and new Spider wheels available for 2013, the C30 looks like nothing else on the road in the best of ways. Three new colors are available for 2013 – Titanium Grey, Electric Silver and Flamenco Red – and the seats are given detail changes with a new textile material insert joining the T-Tec seat upholstery for improved durability.
The Volvo C30 – which as won more than 15 awards since its introduction in 2008 – has always offered value, thanks to its impressive list of standard equipment, now expanded for 2013. All C30 models now feature standard Rain-Sensor Windshield Wipers and Headlamp Washers, and service intervals increase to 10,000 miles thanks to the use of fully synthetic motor oil. The use of a new font on vehicle emblems offers improved readability.
There are two C30 models – T5 and T5 R-Design – and three trim levels – Premier, Premier Plus and Platinum – from which to choose. All feature a strong, 227-hp 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive and either a six-speed manual or five-speed Geartronic automatic transmission. The T5 R-Design features Flex-Tec and Leather upholstery and a standard sport chassis with 18-inch Midir alloy wheels. Stepping through the trim levels will net power seats for the driver and front-seat passenger, a power glass moonroof, Active Dual Xenon headlamps, Volvo Premium Sound System and Navigation.
The award-winning Volvo C70 (2013 MSRP $40,990) is a sporty convertible that features a retractable hardtop (which stows itself neatly in the trunk), standard turbocharged performance and famed Volvo safety technology. Four adults will find comfortable seating within this classically-handsome convertible. Top up or down, the C70 features rugged construction and safety features like door-mounted side-curtain airbags that offer head protection even when the top is retracted and the windows are down. The front-drive C70 offers T5, T5 Premier Plus and T5 Platinum versions.
With a standard T5 turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the C70 delivers 227 hp and 236 lb/ft of torque across a broad rpm range, making the car feel responsive and satisfying. The highly-refined C70 Inscription Package is continued into 2013, as well, which features even more performance thanks to engine tuning by Polestar. The Polestar tune turns up the heat to 250 hp and 273 lb/ft of torque, and Volvo enhances the visuals with a gloss-black grille, LED daytime running lamps with chrome trim, 18-inch Midir wheels with high-gloss black spokes, and a rear spoiler. The C70 is available in two new colors for 2013: Black Sapphire (Inscription only) and Ice White.
Every 2013 Volvo C70 features new standard equipment, too, with Rain-Sensing Wipers and Headlamp Washers joining the generous list of included features. Value is also enhanced by the standard synthetic motor oil, which extends service intervals to 10,000 miles.
The 2013 Volvo S60 midsize sedan is an extremely competitive entrant into the premium European sedan sandbox. The 2013 S60 (MSRP starting at $31,750) pushes Volvo design into the future while honoring the past. You'll see the prominent shoulder line and signature Volvo crossbar grille, and the S60 ups the game with a swooping C-pillar that stretches all the way to the taillights, making the profile more coupe than sedan.
The dynamic looks are underscored by a chassis and powertrain that deliver on the promises of the looks. The Volvo Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) system is enhanced by Corner Traction Control, Torque Vectoring and Advanced Stability Control and “Sport” mode, making the S60 quick through the corners and sure-footed in the snow. There are two engine choices: the turbocharged T5 five-cylinder, with 250 hp and a segment-best 266 lb/ft of torque, that delivers lively performance and class-topping fuel economy of 30 mpg highway; and the 3.0-liter turbocharged T6 inline-six, the most advanced six-cylinder Volvo has ever produced. With 300 hp and 325 lb/ft of torque, there’s all kinds of muscle available without the thirst of a V8. The S60 offers front- or all-wheel drive, and the S60 R-Design gets a revised version of the turbo six-cylinder with 325 hp and 354 lb/ft of torque.
The innovative engineering extends from the engine bay into the comfortable, stylish interior. The available Volvo Sensus infotainment system features all-inclusive steering wheel controls, in addition to traditionally-located controls, to keep your hands where they belong and distractions to a minimum. Standard City Safety helps you avoid low-speed accidents, and it also watches out for pedestrians. Voice Control is available for the navigation and telephone systems
If you like the S60 but need more space, the 2013 Volvo S80 (MSRP starting at $38,950) is your sedan. It's a tasteful, stylish European luxury sedan that stands apart from the crowd and features a unique combination of design, style and safety. Two versions are available: the front-drive, 240-hp S80 3.2, with a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine, and the 300-hp S80 T6 AWD, which features a highly-refined, turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. Both come with a six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, and offer Premier Plus and Platinum trim lines. All S80 models now feature standard Headlight Washers, Rain Sensing Wipers, and Keyless Drive with Personal Car Communicator, an advanced remote control that provides two-way communication with your car and conveniences like automatic door unlocking and vehicle status reports.
The ultra-luxurious S80 Inscription is available on all models, and features Sovereign Hide upholstery for the seats and dashboard, classic walnut veneer on the steering wheel, and ventilated front seats. The S80 T6 also now includes a “Sport” mode for its six-speed automatic transmission, and Magic Blue and Twilight Bronze are added to the color lineup. The available Dynamic Package adds 18-inch forged IZAR wheels and a three-spoke sport steering wheel. Sure-footed all-wheel drive is also available for the S80 T6, which enhances both performance and safety thanks to added traction.
Long known for its wagons, the 2013 Volvo XC70 (MSRP starting at $33,450) is a modern spin on the classical form. With front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive, increased ride height and muscular styling, the XC70 has the capabilities of a crossover with the efficiency of a car. The five-passenger XC70 is easy to load, and the versatile 40/20/40 split rear seat and folding front passenger seat open up all kinds of loading options. There's 300 hp on tap in the XC70 T6 with the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder powertrain, and a properly equipped XC70 can tow up to 3,300 pounds.
The 2013 XC70 has a few new tricks up its sleeve, like a “Sport” mode for the six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission in the T6, and the available Active High Beam system that automatically switches headlights to low-beam operation when oncoming traffic is detected. The Road Sign Information System uses the Forward Looking Camera (FLC) to recognize speed limit signs and display that information within the speedometer's integrated LCD screen. Tunnel Detection automatically activates the headlights when the car detects that it's passing through a tunnel, lighting the way and enhancing safety. The six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission has a new gear-shift knob that integrates a lighted gear indicator right into the top of the knob itself, and XC70 3.2 models, which come with a 240-hp 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder, have a new 17-inch alloy wheel design option, the handsome VALDER.
Crossover vehicles are extremely popular, and the 2013 Volvo XC60 premium compact utility (MSRP starting at $34,200) gives buyers a way to get the world-class safety features, handsome styling and genuine value that Volvo is known for in a corner of the market that's growing quickly. The five-passenger XC60 was the first vehicle to offer Volvo's revolutionary City Safety system as standard equipment, and it's gone on to win many safety awards.
The winning personality continues for 2013, with an available R-Design model featuring 325 hp and a segment-best 354 lb/ft of torque. The front-wheel drive XC60 3.2 returns the best fuel economy in its class (18 mpg city/25 mpg highway), so as you can see, this model covers the entire range of buyer desires, including available all-wheel drive. The XC60 is also the only place you'll find Pedestrian Detection with Full-Auto Brake and Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist in a premium compact crossover. New for 2013 is a lighting system that incorporates Tunnel Detection, to automatically turn on the headlamps when you enter a tunnel. The Technology Package gains Active High Beam, which automatically switches headlights from high- to low-beam in the presence of on-coming traffic, and the Road Sign Information system that detects speed-limit signs and displays the data in the instrument panel. Standard Rain Sensing Windshield Wipers and Headlight Washers are also part of the equipment list for 2013, and the Keyless Drive system with the Personal Car Communicator advanced two-way remote control is standard for XC60 T6 and R-Design models.
Three rows, no waiting; that's what you'll get with the successful, safe 2013 Volvo XC90 SUV, which has been completely updated and refreshed for 2013. The seven-passenger XC90 was the first SUV to feature Roll-Stability Control (RSC), and this family machine features an integrated, sliding child booster seat in the second row, a 40/20/40 split seatback and a maximum towing capacity of 4,960 pounds to fit your cargo hauling needs.
For 2013, the XC90 (MSRP starting at $39,500) gets its service intervals stretched to 10,000 miles, like every 2013 Volvo vehicle. It also picks up the standard Rain Sensor Windshield Wipers and Headlight Washers that every Volvo model features for 2013.
