Redesigned Porsche 911 Captures Best Car to Buy Award
Motor Authority Chooses 2012 911 Over BMW and Mercedes-Benz Models
Porsche made big changes to the latest generation of its 911, updating about 90 percent of its components, and those changes have been overwhelmingly for the better according to Motor Authority. The automotive publication recently named the 2012 Porsche 911 its Best Car to Buy of 2012, giving the sports car some advance street cred before it arrives at dealerships in February.
Motor Authority announces its Best Car to Buy award annually, choosing from luxury or high-performance vehicles generally priced above $50,000. Vehicles are compared across classes and rated on their styling, quality, and quantity of available features, acceleration and handling. This year the seventh-generation Porsche 911 beat out competitors like the Range Rover Evoque SUV, the Nissan GT-R Sports car, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe and the BMW 6 Series Coupe.

Porsche 911 Carrera Smokes Competition in Car and Driver Comparison
Chevy Corvette, Nissan GT-R Fall Short of Redesigned German Icon
Some drivers are satisfied with merely owning an expensive car, while others aren't satisfied until they own the very best performer. According to Car and Driver, which pit the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S against the Nissan GT-R and Chevy Corvette Z06 in a comparison of sports cars hovering around or above $100,000, the new Carrera S is the car to beat.
The significantly redesigned 911 Carrera S, currently available at Porsche dealerships, impressed Car and Driver testers with its seamless acceleration, quiet interior and even its fuel economy to earn the first-place honor. Meanwhile, the Corvette's picky chassis, low-quality interior materials and poor navigation controls dragged the Chevy contender down to the bottom of the pile. On the other hand, the awkward design and consistently delayed reactions of the GT-R relegated it to a second-place finish.
