Range Rover might need a bigger trophy case for the 2012 Evoque. This daring new SUV, which brings the Range Rover brand into a new segment, recently added a new award: North American Truck of the Year. It’s just the latest in a series of accolades recognizing the design, performance, luxury and value of the 2012 Range Rover Evoque.
Since the fall, the all-new Range Rover Evoque has been collecting awards from media all over the country. Winning North American Truck of the Year, however, is an especially noteworthy honor because it represents the votes of independent journalists. A coalition of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada make up the committee, representing all types of media. The five-passenger 2012 Range Rover Evoque, available in five-door and coupe body styles, starts at an MSRP of $43,995.
Perhaps most significant about its North American Truck of the Year win is that the Range Rover Evoque had to beat a number of well-regarded vehicles to win the award including the BMW X3 and Honda CR-V.
Range Rover has become accustomed to collecting awards for the all-new Evoque, the lightest and most fuel-efficient vehicle it has ever offered. Motor Trend
named the 2012 Evoque “2012 Sport/Utility of the Year”; AutoWeek
named it “Best of the Best” in trucks; Road & Travel
awarded the Evoque “International Truck of the Year”; Automobile
magazine gave it an “All-Star” award; Bloomberg News
made the Evoque its “Crossover Car of the Year” and AOL picked the 2012 Range Rover Evoque as its “Editor’s Choice” for SUV of the year. Recognizing the new Range Rover model’s inherent value, Automotive Lease Guide
(ALG) called the Evoque “Best Luxury Compact Vehicle.”
Voting for North American Truck (and Car) of the Year follows a very strict and confidential protocol. The selection process begins with a group of 10 eligible trucks (and 10 cars). The 50 jurors drive each eligible vehicle and independently assign points to each. They rate each contender based on its value, innovation, handling, performance, safety and driver satisfaction, and then send their ballots to accounting firm Deloitte & Touche. Based on votes, three finalists are selected, and then the same group of journalists votes for the winner.
As you can probably surmise, a vehicle has to be pretty special to make it to the top three, and unquestionably superior to win – a description that fits the 2012 Range Rover Evoque perfectly. The daring design of the Evoque speaks for itself. Looking like no other SUV or crossover on the road today, the 2012 Evoque delivers the brand’s core values of premium craftsmanship, luxury, performance and multi-terrain capability. At the same time, the Evoque brings a new spirit of on-road performance and efficiency with the brand’s highest EPA highway fuel economy rating, 28 mpg.
The 2012 Range Rover Evoque employs an arsenal of new technology to achieve its award-winning performance. A turbocharged direct-injection 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine kicks out 240 hp and a wallop of low-end and mid-range torque, 251 lb/ft of torque at 1,750 rpm. A six-speed automatic transmission connects with intelligent four-wheel drive to get the power to the ground, whether the surface is smooth pavement, slippery snow or a rocky trail.
You can be sure that a vehicle with the Range Rover badge has earned its trail-driving chops. The Terrain Response® system, as used in other Land Rover and Range Rover models, gives the Evoque driver a choice of driving modes for sand, mud, ruts, grass, gravel and snow. Behind the scenes, this sophisticated technology optimizes performance of the four-wheel drive and traction and stability control systems to match the conditions.
On pavement, the Range Rover Evoque moves like a lithe sports sedan, especially with the available Adaptive Dynamics chassis system with MagneRide™ shock absorbers. Off pavement, the ability to traverse nearly 20 inches of water and even operate at tilt angles of up to 45 degrees leaves other SUVs back at the trailhead.
Of course, the Range Rover brand also signifies the utmost in British luxury. The 2012 Evoque blends the ultra-modern, including the latest infotainment technology, with traditional attention to craftsmanship including fine leathers, wood veneers and metal finishes.
Now, cast your own vote. Come in and test-drive the 2012 Range Rover Evoque, the “North American Truck of the Year.”
