As many of you know, Perkins Motors has been a strong supporter of Springs Rescue Mission for 20 years. Tom Perkins is a founding board member and has dedicated a great deal of his time and means to ensuring the organization has the tools it needs to support our neighbors in Colorado Springs dealing with homelessness, addiction and poverty.
The mission is a beacon of hope for many people in our lovely community. Currently, they are busy expanding their campus by building a year round 150 bed shelter, a new welcome center that will house many services (laundry, showers, computers) that people looking for a path out of their situation(s) so desperately need. In addition, the mission is also re-building its kitchen to increase its capacity to serve hot and nutritious meals – the word is - upon completion, they will be able to provide around 200,000 meals a year to men, woman and children who are hungry.
Perkins is a proud donor to the mission in many ways, including our $10,000 donation to their volunteer’s run in Scotland last month (see our other newsletter article on this). We encourage you to research the mission and perhaps donate clothing, funds or even volunteer: http://www.springsrescuemission.org/
Springs Rescue Mission has a new way for you to learn about the people they serve, and it is FREE - titled: Periphery. In partnership with The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center (FAC) and photographer Aaron Anderson, you are invited to visit the FAC and engage in an inspiring exhibit containing series of photographs of local homeless neighbors and their personal stories; designed to humanize their faces and situations. We would like to encourage you to check it out and you can learn more by clicking HERE!
The exhibit runs from July 2, 2016 through September 5, 2016. It is a marvelous portrayal of modern art both in words and wonderful photography that truly captures, in many ways, the struggles of homeless people – through their faces. We encourage you to stop by the FAC and take a look for yourself.
Together, I believe we can put a dent in homelessness in Colorado Springs – one action at a time.
