What is this Uber item we all keep hearing about?

As a marketer, I am always learning about new tools and techniques which helps elevate me within my industry. This inspires me each and every day. The more updated someone is about their line of work, the more efficient they will become. As I constantly keep a finger on the marketing-pulse, I also do the same thing when it comes to transportation needs as I want my team to be best prepared to answer your questions!

That said, we will step a little out of the box today and discuss a newer type of transportation that many are using around the world and Colorado Springs, yet many are a little hesitant to leverage due to lack of understanding – Uber. Uber is an up and coming car service (especially in COS), like a taxi, that has exploded across the globe and is finding a home in Colorado Springs. As it grows in popularity and usefulness, here are some tips for those who aren’t ‘quite’ sure about how to use it. From the company’s website:

Don’t have a car, or don’t want to take your car all over the place? That’s alright – that’s where a company called Uber can help you to get a driver that can take you to where you need to go in next to no time. Why should you have to deal with expensive taxis or the confusing schedules that public transportation has posted? Uber has done everything that they can to try and help you figure out exactly how to get to point A to point B on your terms, and not on the terms of a schedule or other potential stressors. The benefits are known to be amazing among every rider.

Uber is evolving the way the world moves. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers through our apps, we make cities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for drivers. From our founding in 2009 to our launches in hundreds of cities today, Uber's rapidly expanding global presence continues to bring people and their cities closer. What is the Sign Up Process?

The sign up process is actually incredibly easy. All you have to do is go on over to their website. There, you click “sign up” (it’s located up in the upper right hand corner of the screen) and make an account. The account does ask for a lot of your information, but rest assured – they have good security software and will make sure that all of your information is kept safe. That being said, you do need to have a valid, working credit card in order to sign up – otherwise, you cannot. The credit card (or debit card) is your main way of paying your drivers. After checking out the terms and conditions as listed on the website, just go ahead and sign up. You’ll get sent a confirmation email, and all you have to do is click the confirmation link and continue forward with the process. It’s really easy and it doesn’t take more than a few minutes to do.

How Do I Hire a Driver?

This is, of course, the part that is going to take a little bit more effort on your end. The first thing that you have to do in order to hire a driver is to go to the App Store (Apple), Google Play (Android™) or whatever other application store that you use for your mobile device. Download the app, install it, and then open it up. Log into your account with the information that you used when you signed up on the Uber website.

After that, you get to start the fun part. There are a number of different types of vehicles that you can choose from, and which ones are available to you will be different depending on the city that you are in. There are five types of vehicles that you can choose from – a high end luxury car, a budget vehicle (“UberX”), a taxi, a black car, or an SUV. Everything seats up to four people, except the SUV, which can seat up to six people in the vehicle.

The next part is that you have to let the driver know where they are going to get you at. All you have to do is either click on the map so that it pinpoints where you are going to be, or you can type in the address of the location that you’re going to be at. Confirm your selection, see how long it’s going to take to get to you, and then you’re basically done – all you have to do is wait for your driver to get to you!

Obviously, the prices are going to vary depending on a lot of things. The city that you’re located, the type of service that you want to use and the type of car that you choose, how far you are going, and a number of other factors that may fall into the whole thing. The time and distance also fall into it, and you have the option to tip private drivers as well. You’ll learn the cost of the trip at the end of it. There are many coupons and promotional codes which can help you save money.

So, as you can see, it’s fairly simple. With an easy to follow format, fair prices, and a number of different options that you can utilize, Uber is definitely something that you want to check out if you’ve been looking for a reliable, safe, and easy to use rideshare service that you can access from almost anywhere.

This information and more regarding Uber and their services can be located at https://www.uber.com/about

You see! Not too difficult. So the next time you are out in the city and need a ride or your car is just too small to fit you and your out of town guests, try out Uber – millions use it and now you have a leg-up with the 411. Be safe out there and HAPPY NEW YEAR from your friends at Perkins Motors.
