The first thing people notice about the powerful and luxurious 2014 Chrysler 300 that's on sale here at Perkins Motors in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is its seductive, elegant styling; it has a design that sets it apart from every other competitor in its class.
Starting at an MSRP of $30,895, the 2014 300 and is available in 300, 300S, 300C and 300C John Varvatos Luxury and Limited Editions. (There are also two high-performance SRT models that will be discussed in a separate article) No stranger to awards and recognition, the 300 was named a Consumers Digest “Best Buy,” and Kelley Blue Book editors wrote, “Big car, big engine, big performance, rear-wheel drive, distinctive style, take-charge road manners, comfort, handling and luxury, yet without the sometimes sky-high prices associated with premium European sports sedans.”
The “Imported From Detroit” style and attitude of the 300 illustrate what Chrysler Corporation First Vice President of Styling Virgil Exner called “art made special.” A groundbreaker since its launch in 1955, the 300 again changed the perception of what a premium luxury sedan could look like when it appeared in 2004, after making its debut in 2003 at the New York Auto Show as a concept car. At the time, design chief Trevor Creed said, "It's high time somebody did the classic American car."
Chrysler has enhanced the features that have made the 300 a stand-out since its 2004 redesign and further evolved the overall design (currently in its second generation since 2004) with LED daytime running lamps, LED taillamps and the horizontally slotted Chrysler grille. There are nine exterior colors to choose from, including unique hues like Jazz Blue Pearl Coat and Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat. Unique style carries over into the cabin, which is available with a Black/Ambassador Blue interior color scheme.
For maximum head-turning power, the John Varvatos models had Chrysler designers, including Chrysler Group LLC Head of Interior Design Klaus Busse, working directly with famous luxury menswear designer John Varvatos to create a 300 unlike any before it. Elements from the black and titanium John Varvatos cologne bottle give the 300 John Varvatos editions a tough yet inviting Detroit style. A titanium-finished grille surround with black chrome grille blades, titanium-colored Chrysler winged badge, 20-inch aluminum wheels, blackened taillamps and titanium dual exhaust tips set the John Varvatos models apart. A Phantom Black tri-coat exterior paint color is unique to the John Varvatos 300 editions, too.
“Our collaboration with John Varvatos created one of the most uniquely appointed and fastest-selling limited-edition Chrysler 300 models,” said Al Gardner, president and CEO of Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “We received feedback from Chrysler and John Varvatos design fans asking us to do two things – build a second run of the ultimate ‘Imported From Detroit’ Chrysler 300 and offer it with our most intelligent AWD system. We listened and the Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition is back.”
The 300 is far more than just a good looking premium luxury sedan. It offers two powerful engines, among them an award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that delivers a slew of best-in-class fuel economy for highway mileage (31 mpg); V6 AWD (18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway); combined fuel economy (21 mpg AWD and 23 mpg RWD); and overall fuel economy (19 mpg city and 31 mpg highway). A segment-exclusive eight speed automatic transmission is also available.
For technology lovers, the 300 is available with a Beats by Dr. Dre audio system and an award-winning Uconnect® 8.4 infotainment system. There are also plenty of cutting-edge safety features, plus a “5-Star Overall” crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
